2026 STS Costume Contest Winners

Uncategorized

For our fourth annual STS Halloween costume contest, we got some great entries representing a range of approaches! We selected winners in a variety of categories: Best Monster/Creature, Best Team Costume, Best Science-Related Costume, and Best Simple-But-Effective Costume.

We’re looking forward to seeing more creative, fun, and spooky costumes next Halloween!

Best Monster/Creature: Adem Evans (Civil Engineering)
Adem provided this description of his costume: “It sits at about 8 feet tall when standing on its back legs. Everything but the stilts and mask were made by hand for this project over a 3-4 month time period.” Very creepy!

A tall figure in a costume featuring a deer skull and a worn green covering.

Best Team Costume: Claire Linn and Parker Smith (Science, Technology, and Society)
Much less sinister, Claire and Parker are the Kratt Brothers. Who doesn’t love Wild Kratts?!

Two students in varoius poses wearing khaki outfits and vests featuring animal pawprints.

Best Science-Related Costume: Louis Rancour (Metallurgical Engineering)
Beaker from The Muppets is here to do some science. He says, “Mee-mee-mee-mee. Meep.”

A student wearing a white lab coat, an orange wig, and Muppet eyeballs and nose.

Best Simple-But-Effective Costume: Blaise Louwagie (Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences)
As Dipper Pines from Gravity Falls, Blaise may almost look like he’s just dressed for the day, but the details of this costume are excellent!

A student wearing a blue and white ballcap, a puffy vest, an orange tee shirt, khaki shorts, and tennis shoes.
