Zinefest 2026 is coming! This will be our 3rd annual Zinefest event on campus, and it will be the best one yet! We are expanding the event to include not only work from students (as in the first event) or even from on campus (in the second event) but work from students, faculty/staff, and community members! This year’s Zinefest will be held on Monday, December 8, 2026, in the Apex Gallery (Classroom Building ???), at which point you can visit and check out the zines on display, vote for favorites (if you come in the morning), and find out who won this year’s awards (time TBA, but probably around lunchtime). Mitzi’s Books very generously donated some items for us to give as prizes, and we are inviting submissions to Zinefest from Mines students, faculty, and staff, as well as from people in the community.

To learn more about zines, you can attend our zinemaking events at the Rapid City Public Library (Sunday, September 20, 2-3:30, and Sunday, November 1, 2-3:30). We are also holding a zinemaking event on campus in the Classroom Building (second floor hallway) on Wednesday, September 21, 9 am – 3 pm. More zinemaking events may be coming – this space will be updated with more options, if that works out!

To submit a zine to be included in Zinefest, bring 5 physical copies of your zine to the Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences office at South Dakota Mines (Classroom Building 333) by Tuesday, December 1, 2026.

All submissions for the contest must be accompanied by the following :

• Your name
• Your email address
• Your major, department, or office (SD Mines submissions only)
• Your age category / age (community submissions only): child, including age; teen, including age; or adult (18+), specific age not required.

Important: Submissions without name & email may be included in the show but will not be eligible for the contest.
